When I think of French cidre I see a 750ml bottle made of green glass with an old-fashioned-handwritten label containing a delicious beverage. Do you?
The founders of Maison Sassy, two childhood friends from Normandy, having spent several years among entrepreneurs came up with a new idea for French cider. They created a modern cider brand, which is traditionally handcrafted at Château de Sassy in Normandy but comes in a fresh new bottle design.

Apples: a blend of Normandy grown apples
Package type: 330 ml clear glass bottle with crown cap
Recommended type of glass: pint glass, flute or straight from the bottle if you like
Appearance: pours a clear, light amber with a pale orange shade with a medium white head, which quickly reduces to a small head and a ring around the walls of the glass. Carbonation is rather high. Body is medium to heavy.
Aroma/Nose: the aroma is moderately sweet with a fresh and crisp apple flesh and apple juice. There are some hints of dry white wine and bitter sweetness with a gentle wood and vanilla touch.
Taste: it begins with a medium sweetness and a honey hint with a distant raisin touch, which moves to a pleasant acidic and crisp apple juice notes. The medium palate has some bitter taste with an almond hint. The finish is dry with bitter notes and a distant woody touch.
Overall: Sassy Cidre L’inimitable is a cidre that will satisfy everyone’s palate who don’t take rough or funky cider taste, any notes of barnyard, strong astringency or harsh bitter notes. It is a really nice, smooth and sophisticated cider, which I wouldn’t mind sipping at a party. I truly enjoyed drinking Sassy Cidre L’inimitable. But, in the end, I prefer the wild and funky content of traditional French cidre packed in an old-fashioned bottle. I would buy it again. 4.5/6
Availability: pretty broad in France. Other European countries where Sassy is available, include Monaco, Belgium, Luxembourg, UK, and Sweden.
Price: bought locally in Berlin from Galeries Lafayette Berlin for 4.3 EUR.
