Henney’s England’s Pride Medium Cider

Last cider I had from Henney’s, the Exhibition Cider (for my review click here), was absolutely delicious. I still don’t believe that something that good can be available in a regular supermarket. This time I am sampling another Henney’s cider, the England’s Pride Medium Dry.

Company: Henney’s Cider Company Ltd.
Place of Origin: Frome Valley, Herefordshire, UK
Apples: could be a blend of cider apples such as Dabinett, Ashton Bitter, Tremletts Bitter, Yarlington Mill and Michelin as per their website.
Sweetness as per label: medium
ABV: 6%
Package type: 500 ml clear glass bottle with crown cap
Recommended type of glass: pint glass

Appearance: pours a clear, golden yellow with a small white head, which quickly dissapears. Slightly sparkling. Body is light to medium.

Aroma/Nose: The aroma has a tart and ripe apples with dry white wine notes. Apart from that, I can smell a light sweet caramel-like note with a very distant acetic hint. Nice.

Taste: not so sweet as expected. It has a light watery, light caramel and crisp moderately acidic lemon-like start. Next notes that come into play are baked apples and light astringency with a bitter almond note. The aftertaste is dry and lingering with astringent notes, green apples and very distant acetic note.

Overall: Another great and extremely drinkable cider from Henney’s. I could have it again and again. Somehow all flavors are nicely balanced, making this cider refreshing and very drinkable. But, honestly, I enjoyed their Exhibition Cider more. Nevertheless, the Medium Dry is still a very tasty cider. 4/6

Availability: Availability is very broad. Check supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco or even Aldi in the UK for around 2.50 GBP. For the rest of Europe, mostly craft beer shops as they usually also sell UK cider. Available online from Cider and more, Crumtpon Hill Farm Shop, Beers of EuropeHop Pocket Wine Company, Weinwelt, Battleship Eindhoven , Beer here, T Drinksweb Winkel,  Het Ciderhuis just to name a few of them.

Price: had it at a bar in Amsterdam called Regular & Jack at 9 EUR/500ml bottle. Another real cider available there is the Black Dragon from Gwynt y Drraig (For the cider review see here). Regular & Jack was a recommendation from Het Ciderhuis. Thank you! 🙂
